Shayne Cooper has over thirty years of experience in the investigative field as a law enforcement officer and an investigator for one of the top criminal defense firms in the state of Tennessee. In 2006, he took the position as the staff investigator for the Law Offices of James A.H. Bell. Over the past 18 years, Mr. Cooper has assisted Mr. Bell in defending the people of Tennessee from the smallest misdemeanors to serious felonies. Cooper's time with Mr. Bell, who has a no holds barred reputation of defending his clients, has given Mr. Cooper the knowledge to provide the best and most thorough criminal defense investigations in the East Tennessee area. Mr. Cooper's experience has led him to specialize preparing cases for jury trial in both state and federal courts. Mr. Cooper began his law enforcement career in 1991 as a narcotics agent for the Knoxville/Knox County Metro Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit. He spent over three and a half years in an undercover capacity where he investigated narcotic sales and other crimes such as motor vehicle thefts, organized theft, and illegal firearms sales. During this time, he developed experience on how narcotic investigations are conducted, the use of informants, and the preparation of cases for prosecution.
In November of 1994, Mr. Cooper began his training at the Knoxville Police Academy where he graduated in April of 1995. He then spent the next several years as a patrol officer where he responded to all patrol related calls. Mr. Cooper's leadership skills allowed him to serve as a field training officer for recently graduated officers. He was also a member of the West Sector Tactical Team, a unit of plain clothes officers that conducted surveillance and investigations into crimes like burglary and robbery.
In 2000, Mr. Cooper took a position as an investigator in the Family Violence Unit of the Knoxville Police Dept. In the over five years spent in this unit, Mr. Cooper investigated cases of domestic violence, child abuse and child sex abuse. He instructed on these topics during annual in-service and to recruits at the Knoxville Police Academy. Mr. Cooper concluded his career with KPD by spending the first three months of 2006 in the auto theft unit investigating motor vehicle thefts.
